LA FASHION AWARDS Spotlight Those You Need to Know
Among the winners: Juan Carlos Obando, Rozae Nichols, Petro Zillia, Max Azria, Monique Lhuillier, Trina Turk, Guess by Marciano, Collection Bebe, American Apparel, Volcom, Fred Segal, Ron Herman, Decades/Decades Two, DailyCandy, Arianne Phillips, Rose Apodaca, Rosemary Brantley, Gen Art and Project Runway.
In 2006 the LA Fashion Awards program was honored with a NASDAQ closing bell ceremony in NYC attended by rising stars John Whitledge of Trovata, Corinne Grassini of Society for Rational Dress, Kristopher Enuke of Oligo Tissew and Dov Charney of American Apparel.
On a major growth spurt, in 2007 City of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa opened the ceremony for a crowd of 1600 VIPs, fashion fans and celebrity guests. In 2008 the Awards event was redesigned to be faster, fresher and finer with new fashion categories, new venue, less stage production and more rarified guest list. But the crashing economy put plans on hold after two top sponsors filed for bankruptcy.
The Awards are now slated to return at the end of this year, pending official confirmation of a new host sponsor to join returning media partners Los Angeles magazine, NASDAQ, WGSN, California Apparel News and founding sponsor Moss Adams LLP, among others.
It is through this essential program, guided by a stellar nominating committee, that the City and the industry have an opportunity to come together with a common goal of increasing the visibility and reputation of Los Angeles as a global fashion capital. We look forward to seeing the program’s return as soon as dates are settled for 2009/2010.
