Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall 2013 collections and events are slated for March 6-17 at venues across Los Angeles. In its characteristic, independent and free-spirited fashion, you will find a delightful array of designers, venues and experiences in the City of Angels. Some designers will choose to show at a pre-established L.A. Fashion Week venue, others will show at a private venue on their own. All events are by invitation only, unless otherwise specified.

Los Angeles Fashion Week is Underway

After a beautiful debut at Carondelet House near downtown LA, the LA Fashion Council sped across town to set-up a pop-up show at the W Hotel Los Angeles in Westwood, part of a new monthly series featuring LA fashion talents.

Further making the case that Los Angeles is where things start, we also welcomed the debut of Africa Fashion Week and the turn of Elite Curves Haute Curves Los Angeles the LA Convention Center.

LA favorite Project Ethos made its downtown debut at ExchangeLA, just in time for Artwalk, the monthly event that has evolved from a gallery crawl to a rowdier street fest.

The fashion cognoscenti saw a very LA series of shows and informal presentations with Concept Fashion Week including favorites martinMARTIN, NAMI and more which were the Saturday highlight at Siren Studios, and celebrated designer Jonny Cota hosted friends at his private presentation of Skingraft Spring 2013 at the Mondrian.

Just added to the calendar for Monday, October 15: A Maggie Barry futuristic fashion & footwear fusion runway/video show with Michael Antonio footwear, plus market opening celebrations at CMC and Cooper Design Space. Style Fashion Week is also about to get underway with a reception tonight at Petit Ermitage hotel for designers presenting on the runway this week at Vibiana including the notable Louis Verdad plus Dar Sara, Paulie Gibson, Flick Voyager, Local Socialite, MadisonPark Collective, Bri Seeley, Kait Blu, Jhaus, and international designers Patuna Bushyhead, Quynh Paris and Ash Haute Couture.

Also just added are events by Nike Kondakis (presented by GenArt Global, a new sister division to GenArt Fresh Faces), Gypsy Junkies, Haus of Allure and show for fashion tech types at Cross Campus in Santa Monica. There is a lot to see before LA Fashion Week moves into Weekend mode.

LA Fashion Council Debuts

After several seasons of fashion malaise in Los Angeles following the Great Recession, we are pleased to see business perk up. The ground is once again fertile for a paradigm shift to elevate the visibility and reputation of Los Angeles as home base for quality fashion design and production, and as a destination for emerging and established brands from around the world to connect with fashion followers, celebrity endorsers, retail store buyers and press. This change of mood is not lost on fashion media entrepreneur Kelsi Smith, who is helping to propel the renaissance under the aegis of the Los Angeles Fashion Council, a newly formed organization and prospective non-profit that has captured the attention and imagination of an expanding list of key industry influencers and accomplished global fashion veterans.

The Los Angeles Fashion Council will produce for LA Fashion Week this season a series of events at the handsome Carondelet House on the outskirts of the downtown LA core. These include runway and presentations plus an onsite showroom for both apparel and accessories, a daily luncheon and an evening “Digital Influencer” cocktail party in association with Two Point Oh! LA, the blogger organization also founded by Kelsi which is now in its sixth season hosting pre-events for Fashion Week in Los Angeles. Events culminate with an after party hosted by W Los Angeles where we can look forward to some key announcements for the future of the LA Fashion Council and Fashion Week LA.

Designers selected for the debut presentations on October 10th & 11th include AGAIN, Korovilas, The Bohemian Society, Jen Awad, ISM Mode, White Sycamore, Shallow Fashion, Kittinhawk, Bijou Van Ness and Pop Molly. Mens Fashion Week to debut

Mens Fashion Week Los Angeles will celebrate its debut in June 2013 with a launch party on October 11, 2012 at the Martini Factory showroom space near 7th & Main downtown Los Angeles. The event will showcase looks from seven menswear collections, including Vokare, Jag Saint Joi and Zanerobe with footwear provided by PF Flyers. This newly formed organization, with a red bow tie as its icon, will present brands that share its core values: being noble, courteous, and pioneering. Sounds lovely, no? New this season are productions from the newly formed LA Fashion Council, piloted by community organizer, fashion blogger and media entrepreneur Kelsi Smith, with presentations and events leading the calendar. Also at the start of the week is indie favorite Project Ethos (targeting October 11 at the moment) and the individual designer events of singular LA-based designers such as Sue Wong, Kevan Hall and Yotam Solomon.

Fashion Week LA shows start today

Fall 2012 collections start today with installations and runway presentations at Ace Gallery, produced by the talented and spirited Concept Fashion Week team. Showing at Concept on Friday and Saturday are MIKE VENSEL, HENRY DUARTE, BRYAN HEARNS, PAUL REDMOND, MEMENIC, NUVULA, S&G, CHAMBERS, THAI NUYGEN, CURLY V, BELLE N MATISSE, ELAINE ALLEN, ZUBAUEN, GYPSY JUNKIES, LAILI LAU, NAMI, and JEN AWAD.

One of the most inspired events of the week is a benefit for the A+D Museum with CELEBRATE THE WEARABLE as the gala theme on Saturday, March 10. A runway show at 8pm and live auction of wearable creations by 40+ designers, architects, artists and creators including KARIM RASHID, RICHARD MEIER, TRINA TURK, JONATHAN ADLER, STEWART + BROWN, JOHN BALDESSARI, DIANA ENG, FITZU, LOUISE GREEN MILLINERY, JEAN-CHARLES DE CASTELBAJAC, VALERJ POBEGA and L.A. EYEWORKS make this a must-see for the design-inclined.

On Monday March 12, Style Fashion Week will pick up the ball with a series of runway shows through Friday at Vibiana, one of the most beautiful venues in Los Angeles. Collections on the runway this season include SKINGRAFT, MILA HERMANOVSKI, L’UNE COLLECTION, STOP STARING!, INA SOLTANI, XCVI, FURNE ONE and OCTAVIO CARLIN. The week concludes on Friday with GO RED for Women Celebrity Red Dress Fashion Show for the American Heart Association. These events coincide with Market Week in the showrooms and trade shows (Coeur, Designers & Agents, Focus and more) in the wholesale showroom buildings clustered near the intersection of 9th & Los Angeles streets in the Fashion District.

Peppered throughout the week are the individualists and the pioneers, those who don’t conform to a traditional presentation style or collective venue. Among these is PROJECT ETHOS which has — for many seasons now — inspired both club-goers and the press with presentations of multi-faceted creative talent in Hollywood and now broadcasting on the internet. New this season is an ECOCOUTURE event at the W Hotel, and returning with individual presentations are designers SUE WONG (at her atelier) and LAUREN ELAINE (at the W Hotel.) Plus more emerging designers and fashion happenings populating the fashion calendar daily.

Fashion Week closes with LA Fashion Weekend March 16th-18th, the tented extravaganza at Sunset Gower Studios captained by Mikey Koffman, a fashion industry professional and showroom owner turned reality TV personality and LA Fashion Week impresario. On Friday BETSEY JOHNSON, DINA BAR-EL and VILORIJA will take the runway. Featured brands on Saturday include ASHLEE BROOKS, SARAHI HOUSE OF FASHION, LAHA THE GLAMOROUS GIRL and SKINEEZ SKINCAREWEAR. LA Fashion Weekend has corralled the support of local news KTLA 5 to broadcast the Sunday presentations which have an appropriate reality-celeby-TV bent: GOSSIP GIRL BY ROMEO & JULIET COUTURE inspired by CW’s Gossip Girl, LIZZIE PARKER from the new Fashion Star TV show, and ALEXIS BY TAL SHEYN, designed with Alexis from Real Housewives of Orange County Season 6.

Fashion Week coming up in March

While everyone scrambles to New York City to kick off the season, plans for Fall 2012 Fashion Week in Los Angeles are underway. There is a lot of ground to cover in Los Angeles both literally and figuratively in a marketplace spread across several square miles with event options that swing from swanky private-invite hillside retreats to bread-and-butter trade shows in the downtown Fashion District.

Each venue, runway show and fashion event remains a unique presentation organized by a passionate production team committed to delivering a distinct design vision and experience to its invited guests: a mix of journalists, editors, retail store buyers, bloggers and high-profile celebrity fans from Los Angeles and around the globe.

Though we have offered a registration service for press in the past, it isn’t something we’ll offer this season, simply because we cannot guarantee a consistent and quality experience at all events. Instead, we organize the schedule and provide contact details for those who wish to share it. We continue to look forward to an opportunity to help solve marketplace issues in the future, so that registration is easier and coverage is simpler. Until then we invite you to enjoy the eclectic individualism that has become a hallmark of our inspirational and aspirational fashion community. Calendar updates will begin next week on the Calendar page. All events are OPEN TO THE TRADE ONLY unless otherwise noted.
